Happy 2016 from Belles & Beaus Newborn Photographers

2015 was the most phenomenal year...I don't know how we are going to top it in 2016, but we will give it a go!  Looking forward to meeting all of this years new arrivals, and their gorgeous families.  Lots of you are returning for more photo sessions this year, which is always lovely.  

People always ask how often they should have sessions.  We recommend newborn session, sitting session (6-9m) and then again around their first birthday.  From then onwards every 6 or 12 months.  This ensures all of their milestones are captured, and if you make it an annual family treat, you'll never be short of a family photo to give as birthday/christmas presents for grandparents!

This was our family photo this year.  I just need to get the boys to practise their smiling! ha ha.  Working with your own family is sooooooo much harder than photographing someone else's.  I did manage to get them to stick to a colour theme though....which wasn't as much of a battle as I'd thought it would be.  Harvey will not be impressed I'm sharing this photo, as most of you know, he thinks living with me is like living with the papparazzi.  He'll thank me when he's older!

Belles & Beaus Newborn Photography Bournemouth

Definitely, the best part of my job is meeting all of the beautiful new babies :-)  It is truly an honour to help new parents capture those precious first few weeks.

We have been specialising in newborn photography in Bournemouth for many years, but only last year opened our beautiful boutique studio in Tuckton, Christchurch.  It is filled to the brim with amazing props and backdrops.  We are complete 'prop addicts' and a week never passes without a new addition to the prop cupboard!  We always welcome new ideas and are more than happy to accommodate any props brought in by parents.

We look forward to meeting all of the new arrivals that 2014 will bring.  With all this bad weather we have had....I'm looking forward to a baby boom in about 9 months time :-)

Belles & Beaus Tips for a happy, relaxed newborn session......

Always try to book in before your baby actually arrives!  Our newborn sessions are so popular, but we can only do 1 a day, so get booked up very quickly.  We know babies rarely arrive when they are supposed to, so we book you in provisionally for around 5-7 days after your due date, then, when baby arrives, we can book you in properly.

We keep the studio very warm for our newborn sessions, so please wear layers that you can take off if you get too toasty!  The warmth helps keep the babies snug and asleep during the sessions.  We also have white noise and womb noises to aid with getting them into a deep sleep.  Sometimes babies drop off straight away, other times it takes a while.  The best way usually is to feed them just before, or on arrival of your photo session, then with a full tummy, they are 'milk drunk' and usually go into a deep sleep!  Don't forget to bring a drink/snack for yourself too...we know how hard it is being a new mummy, and sessions can last between 2-4 hours...it all depends on baby!

If you are relaxed, baby will be relaxed!  We are used to being pooped on, peed on, and having to stop numerous times for top-up feeds or clean ups....so don't worry.

We have a studio full of props, but if you hate that kind of thing, just let us know.  We do a wide  range of photographs throughout the session, capturing the babies natural beauty.  

You can bring anything you would like to include in your newborns photo session.  We have had parents turn up with whole suitcases full...it really is the more the merrier.  We do allow dogs too (don't worry, the studio is sterilised and steam cleaned after every session!) and we can merge two separate photos into one if required for safety.

We absolutely love babies (mine are 10 and 11 years old now!!!) and every session is truly a joy.  We cannot wait to meet the new arrivals of 2014.  We look forward to meeting you soon.

What to wear for your photoshoot....

I get asked this question almost daily!  The trick is to firstly pick clothes you are comfortable in!  It sounds silly, but if you turn up in clothes that are uncomfortable- it will show on your face, and thus in your photos.  I don't mean turn up in jogging bottoms, but something that wont squeeze too much or make you constantly want to breathe in!

I always advise to try and stick to solid colours, if you are all wearing different patterns, it can be quite distracting to the photograph.  Neutral, earthy colours always work well, as do a simple colour theme through all of your outfits ie. everyone in blue jeans.  I am addicted to Pinterest and there is an amazing board here with lots and lots of outfit ideas.


We allow plenty of time in all of our sessions for outfit changes, so please feel free to bring different outfit choices along.

Our photography studio in Christchurch has now been open 9 months!  We have been overwhelmed by the support of both family/friends and local residents.  Our vision has always been to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, beautiful photography, with no minimum spends and no pressured sales!!  Many photographers have a minimum spend on most sessions, especially newborn/baby photo sessions.
We believe that our images speak for themselves and so a minimum spend is not necessary.  We are confident enough in our images that we do not need to pressure people into a minimum spend, so rest assured, there is NEVER any pressure to purchase anything.  The choice is always yours, and with our vast range of prints and products, we are sure there is something for everyone.
